Björnlandets nationalpark

The beautiful old pines, the low-draped spruce swamp forests and the clear traces of forest fires make Björnlandet both a living, dynamic ecosystem and a biological archive that shows dramatic processes in times gone by.

Björnlandet National Park was founded in 1991 and consists of 2300 hectares of forest that have been protected as a heritage for our descendants.

The forests are similar to the nature that Linnaeus describes from his trip to Lapland just over 280 years ago and consists mostly of old pine. Tree ages around 180 years are most common, but there are also trees that are significantly older than that.
